If you are lucky enough to be out of school (or work!) tomorrow, come visit us at the orchard for apple and pumpkin picking. It will be our last day in the Cameo, York and Nittany pick your own areas. These are three popular varieties that are good for many uses. Pumpkin picking is available on the same ride without a separate charge - just $8 a pumpkin.

Saturday we will be moving the PYO experience to a new block of apples. For the first time ever we will be picking Evercrisp! This is probably the best new apple on the market: fantastic flavor, consistently hard, good crunch AND it stores for months in your refrigerator. Fill up your bag with Evercrisp, Aztec Fuji, or Granny Smith all on the same ride.

Saturday is also a great day for pumpkin picking. There are still a lot of really big pumpkins out there in the patch, so ride our new wagon and make a memory with family or friends.

There are so many apple varieties now in the market that we are running out of room. Nittany, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Holiday, Stayman, Crimson Crisp, Fuji, RubyMac, Jonagold, Ludacrisp, Evercrisp, and Suncrisp.. Cameo is just picked and in the cooler and will hit the shelves by Saturday. Pink Lady and Granny Smith are still hanging but coming to the market probably next week.

Pear season is nearly over. The last variety is Harrow Sweet.

Local vegetables are plentiful and beautiful this weekend. Offerings include sweet potatoes, red beets, zucchini, Romaine lettuce, heirloom tomatoes, grape tomatoes, radishes, kale, green beans, cucumbers and garlic.

As the season cools, remember that we have a huge stock of apple firewood. We took out a large block of trees last year, and meticulously cut, split, and stacked them in bins and stored them in the barn. Bins are just $95 and last for weeks of frequent burning.

If you are looking for something else to do on your trip to see us, go ride the train through Muddy Creek Forks and experience the fall foliage in the beautiful Muddy Creek gourge! maandparailroad.com
